Why not replace the rotted wood? Is the stringer rotted as well? The stringers are needed for support as well. If they are rotted, it won't do much good to fill the transom cavity with resin. It will add a LOT of weight and would be very expensive to fill with resin. JMHO. emoToast
got all the bolts out... the drain holes for the back deck will have to be cut out.. then i could replace the old wood.. not sure if i can replace the drain hole for they are aluminum and pressed in from both sides..
The correct was is to remove all the old wood and fiberglass together and then glass it to the transom. Then overlay it to seal it. Then attach new stringers to it and to the floor for support.
This may help. The first is a book to give you some ideal on fiberglass. The second is my personal boat I am turning into a race boat. It shows some of the process.
Wrechin2 is right - you can't just fill it with resin. Heavy, exepnsive, and not near strong enough. Strength = resin plus something else, wood, fiberglass, aluminum, whatever. You need to replace the wood and encapsulate it.
