Went to a dude ranch in Wyoming and got on and rode a horse for the first time in 3 and a half years. The ranch was the Triangle C and it sat at 7770 ft. elevation. A low spot on the banks of the Wind River, south east of Yellowstone and east of Jackson Hole. Some of the trails we rode would have made a goats face look flat. We had two all day rides and the first full day ride was up to the Continental Divide Trail at 10,000 ft. The trail runs through mile after mile of Alpine meadows and lakes(ponds). Through the week we got a chance to ride a morning and afternoon ride usually about a 2 to 3 hr adventure. On Wednsday evening, after a steak and peach cobblercookout we did a sunset ride that finished in the dark. On the sunset ride we rode down and turned up into the Sheridan Creek watershed. The climb up to a ridge 5-600 ft. over the creek, ride was pretty steep. If you stood up in the saddle and reached over your horses head you could touch the ground. Once you reached the top of the ridge you could look down at Sheridan Creek 500-600 ft below you. Big rocks and water down a vertical cliff. All of this was in sunset light, remember I mentioned it got dark. The last half of the ride was going down the trial from the day before. While not as steep as the climb up the ridge, if I turned my toes in, I could have tickled the horse ears in the dark.

We climbed all morning to reach a meadowed peak below Pinnacle and needless to say we had to ride back down to get back to the ranch. What a week....Got back on a horse and had a great time. If you like to ride and enjoy fantastic views Triangle C is the place to go.

Nice ride there Carl. I have seen some of the country you were in and it is fantastic. Been a few years but I can see the places you talked about in memory. Glad you are able to be back in the saddle and riding again. Just be careful and don't dent that crooked head of yours again. Thanks for sharing.

Your killing me here Carl. I love that country. Dubois..what a neat western town. had a batch of pancakes there one tme, at a mom & Pop café. The size of a platter, and stacked high. Now, run on down to Thermoplis, soak in the hot springs....for those saddle sores. emoLaugh

It would be hard for me to get back on a horse. The pictures bring back fond memories of my trip to Urma Lake Lodge in Wyoming. Thanks for the excellent post.
