trim gauge

i am wanting to install a trim gauge on my 89 bullet w/89 150 mercury xr4 since it did not come with one
my question is will a trim gauge go to the same wires as my turn signal trim (easy install)or do i have to run
them back to a certain place on the motor (not so easy)?

just guessin but if it`s like OMC engines you have to install a sending unit on the engine itself and run a couple of wires to the guage.
