I had something strange happen yesterday afternoon. I was moving across some shallow water (using trolling motor) and needed to tilt my motor up to keep it from dragging. I used the bow mount Trim/tilt and it wouldn't trim up, only down. I moved back to the steering wheel mounted trim/tilt, same thing. I tried the throttle mounted tilt/trim, same thing. I trolled out in deep water and tried all three locations again, same results, no upward tilt.

I trimmed it down to take off, gunned it, and when it started to plane out the upward tilt/trim started working again.

Didn't have any more issues with it last night. The thought that is gnawing on my brain right now is, if it failed to tilt once it may quit all together soon.

Any ideas on where to start looking for the cause of the problem?

no expert but sounds like a bad connection somewhere

that has happened to me before and it was caused from loose connection to the main battery.so might want to start there then look at the wires going into the trim from the relays

I had problems with my relays as well. Took relays to car parts store & they found some that matched em & they were $7 each. Good Luck & God Bless!

It finally gave up the ghost this afternoon. It would trim down but not back up. Tracey Harden was kind enough to show me how to jump the wiring so it would raise back up so I could trailer it. Thnaks for taking time to show me how to do this, Tracey I owe you one.

I will go buy some new relays tomorrow and hopefully that will fix it.

Is it still acting up???? If so switch the relays and see if it goes up and not down. If so, it is a relay. If doing the same thing, that engine has a trim limit switch that may have gone bad. It is there keep from allowing the cowl from crushing up against the boat on some.

Currently it won't raise at all. It will lower. When you bypass the relays and put wires in the trim/tilt wiring and ground it and touch the trim positive it will go up just fine. Tracey swiched around all of the relays and it wouldn't raise. He thought it might be something else causing it too.

If he switch relays and it would not go up but would go down, then the limit switch more than likely as went bad or is sticking in the "open" position. May be why it started working again. The up circuit from your trim switches has to pass throught the limit switch to get to the relay to activiate the up circuit. When the engine gets so high, the switch trips and does not allow the voltage from the trim switches to make it to the relay and the trim will stop working. Give me a callwhen you are at the boat and I can tell you what to look for and how to bypass so you can fish this weekend.emoToastemoToastemoToast
