I was pulling boat home yesterday when that big storm hit. I backed boat in garage & trimmed motor all the way down. Everything was fine, no problems at all. Came in & had a sandwich then went back out to garage & trim motor was humming like it does when you are trimming motor down. I disconnected battery. I switched the relays and hooked battery back up but it did not help, still humming. My friend said it sounds like I got a bad switch somewhere. I go over & move the throttle in gear & humming stops. I raise motor all the way up & it sits there about 2 seconds then starts going down again. I move throttle back to neutral, replace relay & raise motor again. Gets to top then sits for 2 seconds then goes down again. I removed relay & unhooked battery. I am thinking the trim switch in the throttle is bad & if it is, how do I go about replacing the switch. Does this sound like it might be the switch or maybe something else?

I had the same problem few years ago after a heavy rain. More than likely you got some water in 1 of your trim switches causing a dead short. Try drying each switch with a heat gun or blow dryer and see if that helps.

Thanks bb45, I took my air compressor & blew off all switches real good. Everything is working good now. Now my question is, How do I keep this from happening again? I don't want to have to leave fishing everytime it starts raining. Any suggestions on what to do to keep this from happening again?

Bullet bass boats are bad about this. It is the front switch on bullet bass boats that get water in them and short out. There is a little rubber boot thats over the switch that gets ripped by trimming with your foot. Your shoe will rip the little boot and water will go down into the switch and short it out and makes the trim run up or down till it burns it up. Not sure what boat you have but it might have the same problem.

I agree with water in the switch.....It is usually easy to find out which one is doing it with a multimeter if it is still doing it. Had one on a johson the other night and it was the switch on the back of the boat. Had no boot and had water was getting it in when stopping. Had done it to him once before, I just happen to been there and had my meter with me and found it.
