I gotta thank Ol Doghouse here on CFF for the last few years of inviting me up to his property in Lincoln County. This year was a memory I'll never forget...

My daughter has taken a big interest this year so I've sorta held off on some of my hunts and pretty much stuck to taking her and sitting in blinds or a ladder stand. She been pretty good so far but a tad bored at times.

I got Miss Olivia up around 2am saturday morning and we headed out about 3:15 to the property...of course she rested the entire time, snoring. LOL We get up there and load up for the first spot. Jerry put us in a nice shooting house with heat I might add and a great view. Didnt see anything that morning so we returned after a good lunch at a local, OLD country store.

I guess around 6 pm, we hadn't seen a thing but big red squirrels when Olivia spots a couple of does on her side of the stand. I asked her if she wanted the Mossberg 30-06 or the 243 Jerry let us borrow...She asked for the Mossberg. LOL. (good girl) I talk her through setting up on the rail a taking her time..breathe and pull the hammer back when she absolutely sure she has the shot. While shes doing that, Im watching through binoculars and spotted a huge doe, I then started to whisper to her, "hey, theres a bigger...BOOM!" Never mind that bigger doe, she just dropped the other one in her tracks. PERFECT shot!!! I about came unglued. She was thrilled as hell and I was ready to cry with joy! I got a shooter!!! 160 yard shot...Excellent!

The next morning she was all stoked up about getting another crack at one and she had the opportunity, however she did miss. Not sure what she did wrong but I know the shot was another 40 yards or better than the last. The doe comes around my side through some pines and then walked out into a small opening where I bleated her, and took her with the 243. (I still let Olivia get a photo with it. Lets face it, her miss just pushed the deer to my side.

I cant begin to tell you what this past weekend meant to me as a father. The time spent talking about things you usually don't have time for and just getting away from the world is priceless!!! I encourage anyone here to take their own kid especially if they have the slightest interest. My daughter is hooked now and that is great!
