Triton-LB, Carters Lake Saturday Open tx, 20lbs of Spotted Bass, 12/5, Chris Hight, (Fishnvol)
<font size="2">20+ boats showed up to the Saturday Open tournament out of the dam this morning. I wasn't expecting as many boats w/ the snowy weather. The lake was just an inch or two under full pool and the water temp was 55-56 everywhere I went..... The tournament hours today were 8am-4pm, we stayed in the truck until 7:45 and the boat was covered in snow when we launched LOL. The snow stopped about 9am but to make things more interesting the wind was blowing 15-20mph the rest of the day. We had some 3foot waves late in the day LOL. Not very comfortable in other words. The first real cold day of the year didn't affect the fish as much as the fisherman LOL. Once again multiple impressive catches of spotted bass weighed today, Carters is producing as good as it ever has.
Fishnvol and I started slow boating small keepers early on fish heads, crankbaits, and jerkbaits. We were unable to get any size until around 11am, after that things were steady throughout the rest of the day. We used swimbaits, fish heads and jig head worms to catch our bigger spots. All the fish were between 25-45ft and most were suspended over much deeper water..... Fishnvol caught his PB Spot today on a fish head in 30ft, the beast weighed 5.65 and give Christopher a small battle on the back of my Triton LOL. We ended the day finishing 1st place w/ 19.82 (all spots) and won bf w/ 5.65, 2nd place w/ 18.49 was Brian Wilson, 3rd place was 17+ not sure who it was. I know Teddy and Charlie Childers had 16+ and didn't get a check LOL.
Seems there's a lot of big spots being caught very shallow as well. Mostly on jighead worms and creepy crawlers I'm assuming..... The bite is good right now, if anyone is interested in getting out on the water to chase the meanest fish that swims drop me a line. The numbers could be better somedays, but there's not many lakes (if any) in the world that house the quality of spotted bass like Carters.
