I have a problem with the rope for locking and unlocking on my troll motor. It broke tonight and I was able to fix it but can tell that its fraying further down. The troll motor is a Motor Guide 72lb thrust foot controlled. I looked at the locking pins that hold it in place when its down or stowed but cant figure how to get the one the rope ties to out so I can install a whole new rope. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are those pins the type that you drive out with a punch? I can't remember, but have replaced mine. I also ran my rope through some clear plastic flexible tubing (Ace Hdw)...that saves it from wear and tear.

Mine did the same thing last week, I hooked a piece of wire to the broken end and pulled it thru, then hooked the wire to the new rope and fished it back thru. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to help it thru the tight places .Only took about 15 min's to fix .try that b-4 you start knocking pin's out.

if your old rope is still on the motor do not cut it and remove it yet....untie the rope from the latch....cut the handle end of the rope and use 25lb line and tie the new rope to the old rope with the line....pull the rope from the latch end thru the eyelets very carefully and the untie the fishing line....tie the new rope to the latch, cut the other to the length you want, and retie the handle.....mine broke in a bfl one day and luckily i drew a boat mechanic who showed me this....if your rope is already off you can use wire to run thru it and attach a new rope too but if its not broke this is alot easier

Creekrock the problem is I cant get to where the rope is tied to the latch because its in a housing where the latch pins are located. I see a could of pins that look like they could be punched out but there is also a spring in there so I am a little leery of knocking the pins out.
