Is the optimax a good troller motor battery? I know they are good for cranking but are they good for trolling?

... I have two blue tops right now on mine. So far I love them. They are only 18 mos. old though, but I would buy them again. When my Cranking battery goes, I'm going to put a yellow top on the engine. They ain't cheap but ... ? I also like the big Delcos, a 30 series Marine if you can find it and the Sears Platium Marine. I think all of them are about the same price.

the optimax batteries are very good batteries but way overpriced.
the biggest advantage to them over standard lead acid type is that they can be recharged a lot faster.
for those that fish a lot or tournaments that alone is worth the premium price.
they will go from near dead to fully charged overnight. where a lead acid type may take up to 2-3 days to get fully recharged (depending on charger capacity) .

if its not important for you to have a full charge overnight then go with a good quality lead acid. the Duralast batteries at autozone are made by the same company that makes the optimax and i havnt had a single problem with the 3 i have in my boat (2 trolling 1 cranking)

I guess I am the exception to the rule. I love my Wally-World batteries. I use the Yellow MaxX 29 series DUAL Purpose batteries. I have Three of them in my Proline CC. I guess there is an outstanding differance between the Dual Purpose and the Trolling battery. I have had mine for approximately Five (5) years and Never a minutes problem. The Bual purpose batteries will allow me to troll hard for Days. I also have two of the big MaxX batteries in my Chevy Duramax. I have had them replaced after four years of hard hot use. The Warranty sure made swapping them out a pleasure. LL

you dont need to worry about battries until you get the trolling motor fixed emoPoke
