So I had suspicion that I had a battery going bad so I pulled them and had them checked. One showed a bad cell and the other showed it was holding less than 1/2 the rated cold cranking amps. I really didn't want to hear they were BOTH needing to be replaced emoBang My question is on an average Joe budget, what is the best battery for the money out there? What gives me the most bang for my buck? Like I said I'm on a beer budget if you will so Optimas are out of the question. I have one Interstate battery and the other is an Autocraft from Advanced Auto Parts. I appreciate any help or just thoughts.

Type 31 from Wallyworld are good....usually have 1 year replacement, batteries are priced by quanity & quality of plates....u make the call........... emoGeezer emoUSA

I feel your pain Charles. I just bought two new batteries myself. The blue top Optimas. They cost twice as much as most battreies but in my experience they last about three times as long or more. The ones that I just replaced were bought in April of 2008. I also hear about the same from the Sears Platinum Marine battery and it is also in the $200 + range.

Watch Academy and get you a set of exide deep cycle. They run them on sale for $59 - $79 a piece. I like the exide megacycles. They are $200 a piece but the last pair I bought lasted 5 1/2 years.

Just bought two interstates for about $260 incl tax ( at least I think that is what I paid). The last interstates gave out right at 30 months. One was bad and the other weak.

I have had the Walmart group 31 for a little over a year and seem to be holding up good. I believe they are made by Interstate. On a 24V system I have heard it is best to replace both batteries at the same time. Using a good charger will make a battery last longer.

Yep! You just can't beat the big Delcos and Alan and Mike are just good CFF people too! My Dad would not have anything else! Now for what it's worth to anyone, Interstate Batteries are by far the worst batteries I have ever owned! Period! Three were in my boat when I bought it. Two on the TM and one on the engine. The two on the TM lasted about 18 months. They didn't just slow down and get weak. They just suddenly went dead! I took those back and got the silly pro rated price for replacement. I could have bought other new batteries for the price I think. But then stupid me paid for them and got two more of those silly things. I mean Interstate Batteries are supposed to be a good products you know? Well those lasted about 18 months again! And same thing happened, Bam, just went dead!? No slow down, no sign of weakness or of fatigue. They just died. So I took those back and they graciously gave me another pro rated price. So I graciously told them no thanks! I would go buy some real batteries somewhere else. That's when I sacked up and forked out the cash for the blue top Optimas, {My wife never new} and as I said earlier they were bought in April of 2008. I just bought two more to replace those two weeks ago. They weren't gone or dead, just showing signs of weakness. 5 1/2 years old, I ain't going to complain!

Still using interstates for 3 years and they came from semi trucks and were used. These batteries have yet to fell me. These are 31 series.
