My MotorGuide started making a griding noise down on the shaft where it turns when you depress the foot control. Any idea what I am looking at repair wise?

Are you talking about where the lower shaft turns inside the upper shaft? There is a bearing right there. I loosened the set screws and CAREFULLY eased the collar down on mine when it made noise. Parts fell out and I had to do a "Bprice" to lube it and re-install it, but it has been fine since.

Thats it. Sounds like I might have to take it somewhere since I am not mechanically inclined.</p>

this is probably not the cause but i have noticed when i had an old weak battery mine made a noise like that. since i replaced the battery it has been ok. i doubt this is the prob with yours, but get that battery checked

Dropshot, ya need a bit of grease for that squeaky bearing. Mine did the same. Its not hard to do.
