Trolling motor help

i just bought this boat the guy had the battery up front and wired to the trolling motor went to academy got me a plug and wired it up and now it only works out of the and for a second in the water can someone please help me out thanks

Brandon,gonna need more info,what model motor and brand,is it 12v,12-24v,36v, how many wires are coming out of it and how many wires were connected before,not a big problem we will get you going. Taylor

its a min kota 40 lbs it has a negitive and positive coming out of the trolling motor its a 12 v

should be straight forward then,coming off your battery you will run a red and black wire up to the front to your plug,should have two wires to connect then wire the male plug to your T/M and plug the two together,might want to wire a circuit breaker on the pos side back at the battery for safety but it should work fine after you wire it like this,if not call me and will walk you through it,Taylor 421-6666
