I am almost fed up with my motor-guide I have had worked on about three times . I have a 82 pound tour edition. If I cant get it fixed I am thinking of a min -kota any suggestions ?????

minn kota....i have the lowest brand and almost the lowest power. 2008 minn kota edge bow mount 40lb thrust. i have beaten it to death its usually at least on half if not full power(put it on a bigger boat and really just need to get the 55lb model) have taken a file to the blade twice now to knock off all the rough edges caused by hitting stuff and i have never had a single issue out of it. i would suggest a higher model with variable speed obviously.

I have a minn Kota 45 which isn't enough for my boat and have been pretty hard on it. Only problem at all I have ever had was the pull rope breaking.

oh ill tell ya how to solve that! go to lowes get a section of plastic coated steel cable(of similar size) a little bit longer than the original rope. it takes forever but use the double crip of appropriate size to crimp it where attaches to the troller side and take screwdriver and a hammer to crimp through the small hole. then measure it as long as you need it and use the original handle with a washer. cut the cable to enough length to crimp with a single crimp. dont forget to cut the plastic coating off before using the single crimp or it will slip. and then trim the little point past the crimp so that you dont stab your hand and there you have a troller pull cord that should outlast your troller and is way cheaper than buying new ones.

I think either the switch is bad or the mother board. The motor will just come on automatically. I usually use John Swallows I cant get ahold of him.

Get a minnkota fortrex and never look back I've had two (on two different boats) and it's the best one I've ever used. I use the 80lb and it does just fine on my 20 ft ranger

I've had two Motor Guides and used them both hard. I've never had any problems other than the pull chords like mentioned above. The Pro Series is a good motor and you may have just had a bad one out of the many good ones.

I would suggest Minn Kota. Own two, a twenty something 45# on an aluminum boat, and a 80# Maxxum on my Ranger, six years old. Never any problems out of either, outside dinging the prop on rocks, trees etc.

Contact Johnny @ DJSMarine electronics on the forum and have him order you a Minn Kota at a great price-most likely delivered to your door.
I love my Maxxum, but if you can afford a Fortrex that would be even better.
I've had 4 Moaner Guides and had problems with every one!

Update I purchased a Minn kota fortrex 80lb thrust.. Thanks guys great advice as usual......
