I'm looking to replace the OMC trolling motor on my 18' Stratos, would love to replace it with another new OMC but have looked everywhere trying to find a left over but have had no luck so I'm looking to purchase a new one but wanted a few opinions. I'm looking at a Minn Kota edge 70 (last boat I owned had an older Minn Kota and it worked good so I figured why not stick with that brand) was also curious if anyone could give any recommendations on buying through a local retailer. Anyone have any input?

Thanks!

I have a MinnKota Fortrex 80. It is great and will go through the grass like a hot knife through butter.

MinnKota for me as well. I believe your OMC should have been made by them. As far as local retailers, Sportman's, Academy, and Wal-Mart carry trolling motors, they may have a better price than a boat dealer.

Derek, a lot of people upgrade from 80lb to 101lb trolling motors and if your patient you can find a killer deal like a friend of mine did. He got a used MinnKota Maxxum Pro 80lb for 300.00. Call Tom or Jared at fish-n-fun, they may know of some floating around if your interested.

Derek, what is worng with that TM? I had my OMC Johnson go out about a 1 1/2 years ago. It was a 48 lb. ? something pound thrust. Joey Potter over at Chattanooga Marine ordere me a new motor, 88 lbs. I think and put it on with a year warrenty for, I think $300. Been working great ever since!

omc is one of the best trolling motors ever built but they are rough on cables.i was at the nick last week-end with a friend and his cable broke on his omc.

It's getting old and needs some TLC, getting loud plus some may remember my fishing report from this summer when I introduced the TM to the trailer at idle speed, needles to say she's got a nice little curve to it. I would love to have it restored to new condition but haven;t had any luck finding someone to do it. When I bought the boat it was awesome, quiet and pulled my stratos around with ease.
