Guys
Im thinking about upgrading trolling motors and was wondering how much of a differance is going from a 46lb to a 55lb thrust going to make, my 46 struggles to move me upstream when im on the river if there is any kind of current,, also will battery drain be a big differance?? "Minnkota has the digital maximizer"

Going from a Motor Giude FB46
to a
Minnkota Power Drive V2, 55

Thanks for any input,
The reason I want to do this is to get away from the cable steer and get on a wire steer foot control, the way the front of my boat is shaped its a pain always fighting the cable trying to get the peddle where its comfortable...,
more thrust,, and for the fun I want to add the auto pilot..

Puddle

Also a heads up im going to be selling the motor guide for $225 if anyone is interested,, works flawlessly but has some wing wall rash on it,,, cant figure out how it got there... emoBang

just my 2 cents, last year i upgraded from a 40 lb to a 70lb an i am really happy with the results.but this is on a flatbottom.an now i really dont need my outboard, lol.you probably have a glass boat,i think you should go with a 70 if you can stand it..i know it would cost a few bucks more, but know i dont worry about how thick the grass is or how strong the current or wind is ,my 70 lb minn kota will handle it.i also only have 2 batterys in my boat, one in the back that starts my big motor an from there i have wires run to the front batt,to which i have 24volts going out to trolling motor.emoUSA

If you are already having trouble with the 46 keeping up I'd go ahead and spend a little extra and get a 24 volt system. You will double your trolling time. Any trolling motor operating at higher speed will eat up your batteries, ESPECIALLY a 12 volt system.
