I am in the market for a trolling motor (bow mount) and would like some feedback on brands and key features. I suspect brands will be like asking opinions on vehicles (many strong but opposing opinions). Most important is what key features you find most useful. I do not have to buy the newest cutting edge technology but do want to consider the most valuable features. It will going on a deck boat so would certainly like quick disconnect feature to be able to store in floor locker when not fishing. Thanks for any feedback.

The Motor Guides come off just as easy. Take one bolt out of the front and the whole head with shaft comes off. The foot pedal comes with it as long as it's not mounted to the deck.

Motorguide vs Minn Kota - both are quality brands. For a deck boat I would stay away from the FW or X3 series in Motorguide and the Edge series in Minn Kota; these models just do not have brackets with the sturdiest mounts and a smaller motor. I like the Wireless or Tour Edition Motorguides or the better grade Minn Kotas; Maxxum, Fortrex and Terrova.

Fortrex is still in a descent price range and has one of the bigger motors that will really cut through grass. If you have questions feel free to give me a call.

I have the Motor Guide X3 ( 70lb) . It's ok. It does cut through grass very well and is a little cheaper, but I still want to upgrade to a fortrex at some point.

I have the 80 lb Fortrexx and really like it. The most powerful 24volt motor and the digital maximizer will allow it to run much loner on a charge than my old 70lb. As much as I like the Fortrexx, I think the I Pilot system would be nice.
