I've been meaning to mention this on the forum, but just now remembering to do it. My brother -in-law, who is," Sam " on,(CFF), told me that last summer he and a bud was fishing below chick dam, when his buddy caught a rain bow trout. He said it came up out of the water but didn't twist and shake like a bass might. I believe he said it weighed a couple pounds, and it was sure a sight when it jumped.....I wonder where it came from. I don't know of any trout water down stream. Perhaps it locked through and came from the hiwassee. Has anyone else ever heard of a trout being caught below the chick? emoScratch

I swear I remember RSimms catching a rainbow above the dam some time ago. I believe the discusion was wether there was an underground channel over to Lake JR. I wouldnt think locking through was out of the question though.  Anything is really possible I guess.

North Chickamauga Creek has been stocked over the years (put & take).  It's entirely possible a trout could make it down to the river.

Yes, what Madbomber said... I suspect some of the North Chickamauga stockers make there way down there on very rare occasions. Oddly, the ones that Spur mentioned that I caught one time were above the Dam at the intakes. I really don't have a clue how they made there way up there. emoScratch

I recall over the years several instances of fishermen reporting catching one or two rainbows above the dam, usually in the wintertime - only thought is that they somehow made their way down from the Hiwassee, or someone catching them at Lake Jr. let them go in the lake.

I have a picture taken in the early 1950's by my parents of a neighbor's 11 plus pound muskie caught in North Chick. creek. It was caught with a River Runt plug on the small rock bluff located about a mile below Hamill Rd. bridge. I think I may have shown it to RSimms in the past. In those days it would happen from time to time, though usually not that big. As for trout we have caught a few larger "holdover" trout while canoe fishing the creek in recent years. I'm not very good at computers but could loan it to MadBomer or RSimms next time they come to the shop and they could put it on here.
