what is the best way to catch big trout at reliance

I typically fish Reliance 8 or more times each year, however I have not made time to go up there yet this year. I typically use an ultralite rod and reel and throw roostertails.
I have found that black, brown and white are the three most productive baits for me. If it is sunny, I will throw a Rooster-tail with a silver blade and if it is over cast, I will use gold. I don't ever recall not catching my limit however the majority of the fish you will catch are stokers and range from 10 inches to about 13 inches long. Crossing the bridge at the pump house and entering the water on the other side, fishing down toward the boat ramp usually produce a lot of fish. You can also use worms and crickets. I normally do better with crickets and get bigger fish and don't have to deal with near as many of those Hornyheads that love those worms.
The other place I really like to fish is at the pull off of the trophy area. No live bait in this area (below the little island at the first pull off after coming down off the big hill, with the over look. There are some good deep holes and current in that area and occasionally you will hook into a good fish.
Make sure you know the water release schedule. They tend to pulse to keep the water cool enough for the fish and these pulses are easily fished and if you are careful, you can fish with one turbine on but two can be extremely dangerous. From my experience it takes about 45 min. to 1 hour for the water to get from the pump house down to the trophy area but once it starts coming up, you better start making your way close to the side of the river you came in on.
The beauty of the river as the fog hovers over the water between the mountains and as you watch the fish rise attacking the insects makes the trip worth going
Hope this helps and give us a report.

Lucky craft Pointer 78 in American shad. Rip it around deep holes durring periods of generation. I knew an ol boy who used to use Rebel Craws with only one front trebel to catch big browns.

The best way to catch big trout in reliance is to go fish the Clinch instead!emoTongue
Winter is the best time to fish for size, summer is the time for numbers.Unless you have a drift boat and can get to the less pressured water in the reserve.
