Fishin Fool's truck was in the shop, Wanda had to baby sit today, so I had no choice but to fish alone. Totals: 44 crappie, 13 throwbacks (limit by 11:05), 1 redeye, 2 bass, several bluegills, 1 yellow bass. I started out in the river around 10:00. I caught 20 crappie up there and decided to go back to the cove. I had the bank to myself today. I couldn't get the fish to hit chartreuse today unless it had blue on it. Most of the fish came on the panfish stingers that I had colored up. I was about to quit for the day, and thought about trying a little squirming squirt 1" pumpkinseed grub. I wanted to locate some shellcrackers or something. The crappie ate it up, but no crackers. One more trip this week and that will be tomorrow with Wanda and then it's off to Maryville for the weekend.

Thank you. I wish that I had 3 or 4 more of those shirts. This one is about worn out.

Thanks for the report DK. Wish I could have made it out there today but next week will be fishing week for me! Hoepfully you'll still have the "itch" to go. Have a safe trip Mr. Crappie Slayer!emoPoke emoPoke emoSmile emoSmile

Not to say that is not a Redye but that fish is actually a Rockbass. The Redeye bass/ Coosa bass really looks like a smallmouth the red color of eyes and fins easily separates this species from the smallmouth though. Suwannee and shoal bass also have red eyes but generally have less red on fins. Redeye bass generally are brownish to greenish in color with vertical bars with light centers along their sides and are bronze-olive above, dark olive mottling, yellow-white to blue below. Has a prominent dark spot on the gill cover. Has scales on the base portion of the soft-rayed dorsal fins, clearly connected first and second dorsal fins, and an upper jaw bone that does not extend beyond the eyes. Coosa are likely to be found in rocky runs, pools of creeks and small to medium rivers close to main-channel habitat. They are seldom found in natural lakes, pond or impoundments. Prefers a water temperature of about 65 degrees and is native to small rivers and streams. Coosa bass spawn in coarse gravel at the heads of creek pools in late May to early July. Will not spawn in ponds or lakes. Prefers spawning temperature of 62 to 69 degrees. Like the largemouth the male prepares the nest and guards the eggs and fry. I did a little copy and pasting for the info you have read. I did a report on the fish of East Tennesse when I was in high school so I really learned alot.

Good looking Redeye Bass. I used to catch those things quiet a bit. Fished in less than two feet of water right against the bank in brush, rocks and vegetation. Great report there DK. I was out in HB area and don,t know if I saw you or not.

About 3:00 I was moving from Island Cove to Harrison Bay and met a boat that might have been you. Center console, driver standing up, heading east. I was going to a little cove just short of the Harrison Bay slough to see if any bluegill or shellcrackers had moved into it yet, and all I caught was a nice black male crappie. I waved, but you might not have seen me or recognized me. I have a pro crappie bass tracker with an black cowling without the decals on it. I have a CFF sticker on the back of the engine.

Great report as usual King! I appreciate the lure pics - tried a few dipped and peppered assassins hooked in the nose based on your posts - they work great too - Thanks!

I am a believer in the "DK-Dip" No that ain't the Dairy King chocolate dipped icecream cone. I am going to have to acquire some of the stuff because it obviously works.. I thought I saw you DK, just wasn't sure. I did see Flip in his big red G3

That fish in the top photo is a Warmouth,

That's right, Cheez. It is a Warmouth. Most local folks call these things Redeyes. They are very common in the creeks on the mountain where I used to live. It is fun to catch them in the creeks. They reside under flat rocks and you have to be sneaky to see one. You would be surprised to see the size that some of these things are and you wonder how it got under that flat rock.

I absolutely have to find one of those Tshirts and when I do ... DK .. I'll get you one too! Even I have to make them. It's great. Good fishing day .. sure makes me wish I was retired! *** BigSigh***

hahaha .. DK .. I just yakked with 2 of my co-workers who were out fishing yesterday afternoon over by Island Cove. They ran into you and yakked for a bit. Tim G. said he was very jealous because you had your limit of crappie and he couldn't catch squat. He was with an asian fella from work named Joe. I told them they crossed paths with the best overall fisherman I've ever known!

:) Needless to say they were impressed with your note taking and fishing report. Tim got skunked .. Joe caught fish but not crappie which is what he was after.

Tim said you told him his tackle was too big. He was using 1/8oz. I told him you should know .. so today he's off to the tackle store to get an ultra light rod and reel get up with 4 or 6 # test so he can toss a 1/32nd around.

Thanks for yakking with my co-workers. I can assure you that the few moments you all talked .. they definitely listened. I had to answer 20 questions for them this morning.

TT, if I had known that they were your co-workers, I would have given them a few jigs, however, with the heavy stuff that they were using, it isn't any surprise that they didn't catch a crappie. I was getting ready to quit for the day and look for some shellcrackers when they rounded that dock and chatted. They asked me what they were doing wrong, and I can't lie, I had to tell them that they were fishing with too heavy jigs. They asked me the depths the fish were in and I truthfully told them that too. A crappie would have wanted to commit suicide to be caught with the jigs they were using. emoBigsmile Don't tell them that. I don't want to offend anyone. emoGeezer

THAT's funny. But you are right.

Joe said he tried shooting the docks both he and Tim, but they couldn't get it to work. We're going to have a lesson again one day this week in the parking lot.
