Fishinvol and I went to Watts Bar tailwaters this AM to see if we could catch any stripers. No luck on stripers, but Chris did get the catch of the day up there. See pic below. I'm going to have to give up my title as drumking. He caught the only drum today up there. One small yellow bass and that was it for us up there.
We drove to Dayton and put in at the boat dock and fished the creek for about 4 hours or so. We caught a lot of bluegills (some nice ones) 6 keeper crappie and about 15 or so non-keepers. Chris did manage to catch 2 warmouths.
Was it ever windy and bitter wind chill. Both of our toes got cold even with insulated boots on. Good thing that we had gloves and about 4 layers of clothes on too. At first, all we could get to bite were bluegills and a few small crappie. After about 2 hours, the bigger crappie suddenly turned on and we had a blast for a little while. The wind was blowing so hard that we had difficulty staying on the fish. We would catch one fish, get off the trolling motor to take care of it and by the time we got back on the trolling motor, the wind had pushed us 20 yards off course. Spent more time getting into position to fish than we had fishing time seemed like. emoBigsmile Anyway, I had a great time, Chris. Let's do this again sometime.
BTW, we caught the fish under floaters set about 5' deep and on the edge of the creek channel near stumps. A tube with any combination of color as long as it had some red seemed to be the hotter lure. emoGeezer
