A source with the Tennessee Valley Authority says the Agency is facing renewed pressure to resume milfoil spraying operations on Chickamauga Lake.

The issue first came up during the meeting of the Chickamauga Reservoir Aquatic Plant Management Stakeholder Group Meeting in January.

Stakeholder groups have been formed for most TVA Reservoirs. They are basically an advisory committee made up of landowners, fishermen, boaters and representatives from wildlife and environmental agencies. Decisions by the committees are not binding, but their "advice" provides TVA with a political "buffer zone" for potentially controversial decisions or policies (i.e. spraying milfoil).

I noticed this article was from 2003. Does anyone know what happened with it or if any further meetings were held? I would love to know when the next meeting that is referenced by Rsimms is to be held, or if they are held yearly. I think we should ALL attempt to go and stop this. If we bring numbers then TVA will have cover to deny this attempt. Please keep us updated.

I am on the Chickamauga Stakeholders Group (unless they kicked me off without me knowing it). I don't recall seeing a meeting notice for January (although it's possible I missed).

Since TVA recently bowed out of Guntersville spraying for financial reasons, I certainly can't see them re-assuming responsibility up here.

I'm sure some lakeshore landowners would understandably like for them to start doing it again... but to my knowledge there are no plans to change anything anytime soon.

If anybody has any firsthand knowledge of anything different... please chime in.

Thanks for the update Richard. Let us know if you hear of anything. I think a lot of folks from CFF would be more than happy to go down there.
