TWF Makes Plea For Trophy Catfish

Chattanooga Fishing Forum

Help Support Chattanooga Fishing Forum:

this is the email that I sent to our Representative.
Dear Sir:

I am strongly opposed to removing the 34 inch limit for Catfish in our state. I feel that this trophy fishery needs to be protected from commercial fishermen. It is my sincere hope that you will help defeat this bill HB91. I have personally experienced better fishing as a result of the 34 inch size limit and hope that this continues to maintain our wonderful fishery.

Thanks
Craig Smith

I sent an email too. I hope to see other anglers on CFF help out and send a quick email. The Representative's email address is listed at the bottom of the article RSimms posted above.

Make sure in any correspondence, you mention you are a registered voter and also mention the tax base generated by the persuit of these tropy catfish we have thanks to the size limit. I know I did .. tax money and a voter makes most politicains think twice

I sent a letter in the mail.....even though I live in Alabama, I fish in TN. often.

Alabama is considering passing a law similar to this, Hopefully they do.

Wow Richard thanks for that heads up. I had no idea. I recall what fishing was like when the commercial fishermen had free reign to take any fish in our waters. I have sent the following email opposing the bill:

Mr. Floyd,
As a business owner, voter, taxpayer, and sportsman here in the Chattanooga area I cannot express how much I oppose the bill, HB91, changing the current 34" limit on catfish. Our fishery here in Chattanooga has become a national treasure and will only improve with time under the current regulation. I am frankly surprised that someone would want to take something that is so successful and change it, and I would question the reasons behind that change. Please vote against any change to our current regulations and help defeat this harmful bill. I look forward to seeing your vote on this issue. Please contact me if you need further comment or information.

Dear Rep. Floyd:

As a member of the wildlife subcommittee, I hope you will vote your opposition to HB91 which would eliminate the size/creel limit on 34-inch catfish.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission and Agency have been leaders in protecting and enhancing a tremendous fishery. Other states, such as Alabama, are currently trying to follow Tennessee's lead.

While I certainly have great respect for commercial anglers and what they do, the current regulation is best for the resource and the tens of thousands of Tennessee sport fishermen.

I expect you will agree.
