"Wildlife agencies say the water sees a lot more boaters this time of year. They say wearing a life jacket is imperative, as well as making sure to turn on the lights of your boat if it is dark. "

This quote is not attributed to anyone other than "Wildlife agencies" and does not clarify what is meant by "the lights of your boat".

Are these the lights we are supposed to use or the ones we're not supposed to use? The one's we are supposed to use would not have helped in this case.

Question is where did the barge come from and how it got untied. I agree on the boat lights. Running lights wouldn't have helped in any way in this case. Very unfortunate for the families involved.

Might have helped if the barge had them. Be interesting to see how it pans out. I remember as a co-angler flying up Guntersville in fog wondering if a barge would be coming out of the mist as my "pro" was glued to the GPS. I could hear other boats when we went under the bridge but couldn't even see the pilings. Speed is the most common factor in most marine and vehicle accidents.

Your boater was an idiot. you should have told him to pull over and let u out. GPS is not Sonar! No fish is worth your life..

Some BASS pros have a radar unit on board now. It will show them objects in their path. Can't remember who it was, but said it was foggy once and he was able to mark ducks flying in front of him. Not cheap I'm sure.
