Tybee Island, GA SHARKS! 6-6-2006

Just got back from Savannah from a two week trip with the Aig Guard. On our off days a few of us would go to the pier on Tybee Island and go fishing. Caught all kind of fish but most of our fishing consisted of catching bait then going for sharks at dusk. Sharks came on cut bait on bottom rigs or whole blufish or shad on a king rig fished on the bottom. This is the only picture I got of myself. If the sharks were hitting, it was usually a frenzy. Definatly a change of pace.

Nice fish! I love that area out there. I saw a guy catch a big ole ray off that pier about 2 years ago. Most of the fishing was going on at night. Were they all about the same size? Just curious as to if anyone was catching any bigger ones.

That's one of my favorite areas for surfing. I've literally had buddies on the beach catching small sharks with surf rods while myself and others are out surfing. Good area, good food, but terrible manners on Tybee. It's one of the few places in the South where bad manners and bad attitudes can be found. Savannah is just the opposite. But get on that tiny island and everyone turns into an A-hole.

All the ones I saw were about the same size, 36"-40". All Atlantic Sharpnose, `cept for one Bonnethead I saw. Speaking of rays, I caught one on a Sabiki rig, how crazy is that!

That is pretty crazy. The guys I saw were catching sharks, rays and just about everything you can imagine on cut bait. Were the dolphins jumping? I thought one of the best parts of Tybee was watching the sun come up or go down with the dolphins jumping in the reflection on the water.

No jumping dolphins, all the ones I saw were just swimming by surfacing to breathe.

Good report and thanks for the pics. Savannah is a nice place but like RR said, Tybee can be a bear at times. Most of the people there are not from the South tho RR. Just misguided transplants.emoLaugh
