So I owed Lefty a fishing trip for coming and getting my boat the other day while I had my truck towed home. So I got the truck fixed on Saturday, I decided I would take Lefty on Sunday, it was cold to say the least. At my house it was nice and calm, just cold. We were talking on the way to the lake about how at least its calm , when I got to the lake though it was a different story. The wind was blowing good. My trolling motor was frozen, so we tied up to the first dock and fished for a little bit, but the wind was killer. I caught one small crappie there. 12 count 1/32oz head. Started heading for some bluffs and the motor just would not go, it was sputtering like it had gotten dirt in the carbs or something. Fished some bluffs for a while as it was out of the wind for the most part. I caught another keeper, 11" crappie there. I had stopped for a minute and Lefty decided to grab my rod, as he ahd broke off and did not want to retie until his fingers warmed back up. First cast with my rod and he sets the hook. I am looking and the rod is bent like crazy, then he says" Man this is a slab", about that time I see a mouth that could swallow a softball. Just as I net this fish the 4lb line breaks at the jig head. It weighed in at just at 4lbs. This was it for our catching.

Got to the lake around 7:45 am, fished until about 10:30am. Water temp was 38 by the ramp and 40F in the channel. All fish caught on 1/32oz jig with a particular plastic on it. Everything on the boat was frozen. Water spray on my jacket was ice. I opened a soda and it turned to slush. I got some new gloves for Christmas, called Glacier gloves, they worked just awesome, kept my fingers warm, seriously. I will post a pic of the 4lber. It would have weighed more had it been eating good, the mouth was huge on this fish compared to the body.

I'd like to see a pic of the big one there TW. I'm glad that your Glacier Gloves are keeping you warm. We need a warm up here sometime soon.

Yeah TW, this weather will really test your boats mechanical parts.
I put in one time below Watt's Bar dam and when my buddy backed me off the trailer and the current grabbed me, I had the outboard started but, my shifter cable and steering cable were both frozen.
I finally washed 100 yds downstream and got my trolling motor in the water and worked my way back to the ramp, which was getting ice covered from the other boats putting in.

HEre is the pic.
