Anybody use a UDS on a wooden deck? I think I would like to buy/build one, but my grill location is on our wooden deck. I am thinking large caster wheels (say 4") should be enough to raise it off the deck, but do they spit hot ashes out? Wheels will also allow me to move it post-cook to the overhang to get out of some of the weather.

Thoughts?

The only ash you should get is when you pour lit coals into your basket. Other than that ive never seen coals or ash come out of my UDS (I've got 2 of them). You might want to get a mat that you put under wood stove just to be on the safe side since your cooking on a wood deck.

At Stores where you can buy Coal and/or Wood heating stoves they will generally sell "Stove Boards... They are designed to protect the floors under heaters. They are metal with heat resistant fiberboard on the underside. This would be a most perfect protection to have on your deck.

I'll check "stove boards" out. Still have not built or bought a UDS yet. Anybody have one for sale?
