Fishing Fire and I got on the lake around 830 or so (I overslept) and decided to try the weeds and grass. Noticed a huge amount of milfoil right under the surface around skull island. We managed to hook up with a few on the edge using Torpedos, not anything huge. Decided to make a trip to a couple of shallow sand bars and really lucked into them. The bass were driving bait fish up onto the bars and just attacking them! We caught about 30 fish with 12 to 14 being keepers. I think they would have hit anything but we used Blue Fox spinners and really had a blast with them. Wind kicked up around 11 or so and we headed out as that seemed to put an end to the wolf packs of bass. Hope to get back up there sometime this week and hit them in the evening as the water calms. Great day to be on the lake though. Already thinking of fall!emoSmile

Thanks Richard. I think the reason we had so many keepers in the group was the "schooling" that was going on. Most of the fish we were picking up were fat and extremely healthy. I've gotten in schools before where they were all nice fish, but short. Today, with the overcast and all just seemed to be the day for the larger fish to come out. I think tomorrow will be even better with the rain chances and light wind but I gotta work!...emoBang

I HAD HEARD FROM ANOTHER PERSON TODAY THAT THE LAST 2 WEEKS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CATCHIN BASS IN THE GRASS IN DAYTON AND THE HIAWASEE.

Fishinfool, was the submerged milfoil bordering what some people call 'duck weed'? It seems to be a good combination of weeds for attracting quality largemouth. The little bay just below Skull Island has a good bit of it, as well. Glad to hear you really whacked'em!

Jason, It was bordering stuff that some folks call duck weed, or arrow weed. it kinda grows up to the top and lays over in which ever direction the wind is blowing. But yeah, I noticed it coming up right at the edge. Unfortunately the water was super clear where it was growing so it was hard to sneak up to casting distance. We need a good hard day or two of rain to add some color to the water. The sand bar hump we were fishing had clear water on one side and the back side was milfoil and the duck weed stuff. The bass were driving the baitfish into the bar and rolling right on top of it. Apparently the bait fish want to hold together in a ball and saw the milfoil as a barrier to them, so they stayed on the bar. We'd throw for a few minutes and catch a few, then all the sudden at the edge of the weeds we'd see bigger bass hitting the baitfish and we'd toss into them and really tear them up. I enjoy catching them this way because when they are feeding they are almost like little sharks on a frenzy! The knock the devil out of whatever it is they are hitting, instead of the sluggish feel you sometimes get on spinnerbaits or cranks. I think it'll only get better until they start pulling water down.
