My son was finally able to get me his address over there and I've discussed with a few of you about "adopting" some of these young soldiers by sending things from "back home". Any of you that would like to participate, send me a PM and I'll send you their address. There are rules about what you can and cannot send, so use common sense, but it's a great way to brighten a soldiers day that otherwise is in the middle of the emoBadLanguage ! For instance last year, I sent over a BIG bottle of Grey Goose Vodka in a BIG box of corn flakes. He never got it and I got a warning letter from Homeland Security. It's a serious offense to send stuff like that as I found out.
They love little things. A letter, a card. Cookies are as good as currency. Magazines, movies (latest ones, they've seen it all), PS3 & XBox 360 games (first person shooters they LOVE!) basic stuff like tolietries, drink additives/flavored powder to add to bottles of water, wipes, gum, candy - but not chocholate or anything that will melt. NO ALCOHOL. Dip and smokes, they love but not sure how Homeland Security is about that... I'll find out what we cannot send. Anything that brings home to them.
These guys are a MP Co that is combat oriented and training the Iraqi national forces and police. Pretty much runnin' and gunnin' with them. His group has already spent 15 mos in combat in Afghanistan, so they are a battle hardened group of men and women. They have only been there a little over a month and has already been in the thick of it. There are many young soldiers that don't have the type of families that send things so anything you can do to brighten their day would be much appreciated. Thanks for your encouragement to our soldiers and my family appreciates all of you that are doing this!!!!emoUSA Let's show 'em CFF is behind them and has not forgotten their service to this great country!!!!!
Oh yeah, almost forgot, you know all those jokes you get in email? Print them, set them aside and at the end of the week fire them out. They get a kick out of that, and it really helps morale when they gather around when I sent them before like a whole manilla envelope full of short one liners, to long story jokes/pictures to share in groups. They don't have a PX being a FOB (Foward operating base= out in the middle of no where)
