Used GPS

Hi all.
I want to find a good used GPS/sonar unit. Right now I don't have a GPS at all. What are some of the best units that have been made in the past few years that I could get a good deal on... under $300.

you could get a new Humminbird 718, $219, then the GPS for it is around $70 I think.

i have a new x52 for sale it has sonar but not gps im wanting a 100$ if interested

It seems the older Lowrance LCX models were really good with 1000 watts! Most of the newer ones only have half that. I just wonder about if I buy one on ebay, how much chance is there it will be defective or missing components needed to make it operational. Were the LCX units pretty tough and reliable?

this unit i have is tough and reliable i have used once and even then i only hooked it up to see what it looked like i was going to use it as a back up but if someone wants to buy it i will sell it cause i have an HDS-5 now and really have no need for it

The LCX and the LMS Lowrance units were both well built and dependable. You take a risk anytime you buy used electronics, you may buy them and they work for years and then again you may buy it and it might work a week. The other thing is when buying used if the manufacturer deems that unit obsolete then you may have issues finding parts for it or getting it repaired. The best thing you could do is hold off, save your money, and get you a new unit with warranty. Good electronics are a plus and will eventually make you a better fisherman but they take some getting used to.
