I was a guest in Chattanooga and was told that a 125 # castfish was recently caught by a young boy in the Chattanooga area. Is this true?

FYI, I helped a couple of folks land a massive catfish below Chickamauga Dam recently. I know it exceeded 100-pounds. They had their picture in newspaper with it... caption claimed 116-pounds... which would be a new state record. But I know they weren't the type to bother with "certified" scales and all the paperwork involved. But I believe it may very well have been a state record. Here's a photo.... not very good, but best I could do at the time. I darn near knocked myself out helping them get it in the boat with a boca grip... grip slipped loose and busted my lip.

What a chunk of a fish! I think that really says something about the kind of catfishing we have in this region. Did they happen to mention what they were going to do with it?

I'm betting he was quickly reduced to catfish steaks. They did mention a donation to the Aquarium, but it was a weekend. One guy with a cell phone tried reaching someone "in power" at the Aquarium, without success. Too bad :( :(

I have heard that the aquarium has a standing offer for a catfish that exceeds 100 lbs of $1,000.00. Too bad for that guy. I am sure he did not get that much on the street for that fish.

I hooked one on a shiner Smallmouth fishing that was a lot bigger than the 55 lb. cat that I caught on labor day. It felt like a kid with flippers on swimming. My buddy said it must have been a Sturgeon. No luck, Blue cat all the way. I fought it for 2 mins. or so then the 8lb. line gave out. I had the drag set and everything. I hooked it across the river , behind the sandbar from the old Sandbar Restuarant. If you happed to catch it , it's should still have a gamakatsu circle hook in it's jaw. I couldn't calm down for minutes.

The TN river is really a world class blue cat fishery. Hopefully others will figure that out and call rsimms so that he can quit his writing job.

I've seen that guy & his wife catch more 50lb.+catfish. He has one one every time I see him below Chick.

His name is Willie, he and his wife have caught tons of big ole carp and cats!
