Well, as I said in my report, I broke my FAVORITE ROD!!!! It was my first "high dollar" rod that was everything it was promised to be. It shattered while a large fish took me under my boat in current at a blowdown and I couldn't turn the boat fast enough in the fast current. Top half of the rod went with the lure and was lost, but I've got the handle. What does anyone know about the process of getting this sucker replaced? Hopefully before Sat!!!! But just to get it replaced. It's a St Croix Premiere series. Back before they came out with the 5 yr/Triumph or whatever deal in the recent past.... any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would look St. Croix up on the internet, get the phone number and call and explain what happened. They are usually very good about replacing rods or giving a credit toward a new St. Croix.

Sportsman warehouse sells them. They may have an over the counter replacement at any dealer too.

Just checked their site.... the Premier has a 5 yr warranty!!!! I bought this rod in '99. I was told at the time by the shop that sold it to me that it had a lifetime warranty!!!! Probably just an uninformed sales associate. I hit them up on their "contact us" button. We'll see. Though in all candor, it was during the normal use of the rod. NO rod would have been able to handle that. It must have been a bit ol cat or drum. But I landed about a 15-20lb drum just a few weeks back on it...... Maybe that's what strained it. I've caught 17lb northern pike on a torpedo, a 22lb cat on a minnow, 10lb and up walleyes, and 7lb smallmouth. Not to overlook all the bass I have horsed out from under docs with it.... Best medium rod I've ever had and a must when sauger/walleye fishing. You can feel a flea fart on the tip.... If they don't replace this, I'm going to FA's and beg.... Louie was cute. He said FA could fix it!!! I asked him if FA was going to come up and swim to the bottom to get the other half???? emoLaugh

Send it to the factory with your name etc.
I will bet that they will replace it.
I will be seeing David and Jason in Highpoint, NC this weekend at a rod manufacturers' show and they are 2 great folks.
Oh yes, These are the brains and owner of St Croix.

Say hello to them. I'm kind of po'd. I distinctly told the guy where I bought this rod that I was buying a G Loomis for the quality but more so for the guarantee. He said that value wise, the St Croix was just as good and had a "lifetime warranty". I KNOW this was stated... So, I bought it. Now I find out that you can "Upgrade your warranty" and pay $50, plus another $30 for shipping and they may or may not replace your rod. I'm torn. I am held to do what I say in my business... I will think long an hard before I send some money to them for what turns out to be a 5yr warranty... But if you want to take this rod to them personally, I'm game! Tell them they make a great rod. I know the sensitivity helped me catch some trophy fish that I wouldn't have felt bite on other rods. I could have lived with any other rod breaking.... just not that one. Louie must have told me "sorry" a hundred times. Even said he still felt bad about it today. For he used it at will too and knew it was my fav. Only one I ever pry'd out of his hands.

My 2 cents,

St Croix makes one heck of a rod and over the years I know without exception they have always taken care of folks on their product (I have seen many posts on the subject). Given the circumstances it broke under, I would be willing to bet they take good care of you.

I am not certain what the process is but I would suggest calling them.

Good Luck

Wow... impressive theAngler. Thanks for your input. I did write an email to them with the serial number and everything.... They responded with a blanket email that stated :

The warranty on your rod has expired. In these cases St. Croix now gives you two options.
GOLD STAR SERVICE PLAN
Ahh… your warranty has expired. No worries. St. Croix’s Gold Star Plan eliminates the uncertainty of a dubious warranty claim. Here’s what to do.

2. Include a note requesting our Gold Star Service, along with a check for $50 to cover the repair or replacement of your rod. Our Technician will determine whether to repair or replace your rod keeping in mind we’ll only repair it if we can make it perform like new.
3. That’s all there is to it. And there’s no additional s&h charge for customers in the USA.
*Customers outside the USA must pay an additional $30 for return shipping and handling.

GOLD STAR + UPGRADE PLAN
Understandably, you’re feeling pretty badly about your damaged 'Croix. So why not make the best of a bad situation and treat yourself to that higher-performance model you’ve been dreaming about? With our Upgrade Plan, you receive a brand new rod with a fresh new warranty. Here’s how you do it.
Please contact Dan in the Service Department at 800-826-7042, ext 139 with the model number of your rod for details and instructions.
When you return your rod please send the entire rod to the address below, include your telephone number and address, a note explaining the problem and appropriate payment.

As an added service St.Croix has partnered with FEDEX to provide you with two reduced cost shipping options to return your rod to us. You can either print a shipping label for $10 at the following link: http://www.stcroixrods.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=255&section=shop
or have your package picked up at your location for $20 at the following link: http://www.stcroixrods.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=257&section=shop

I guess I couldn't really ask for more. I mean, $50 is pretty good for a new St Croix. But why don't I just throw some money with it and have FA make me one!?!?!!? That's the delimma.
