The season has come to an end for me in both TN and AR. You could say for me it was not all that great. I never saw a wall hanger while hunting. Never even saw an eight point while on the stand that came within range. But it is not about the big deer you got or got away. At least for me it is not. It is all about getting out in God's creation and just enjoying the outdoors. It's watching the sun come up on a chilly morning, listening to a turkey yelping and watching a squirrel busy getting ready for the winter. It is the fog lifting off a field out in front of you waiting for what you hope will be that big one coming into view. It is the fellowship of other hunters both friends and family sharing in the passion of hunting.
There is something about going hunting with friends and family that only a true hunter knows. It's not about the killing of an animal or bird. It is about sharing. Sharing with Nature if you are by yourself or sharing with others on a trip or at camp. The adventure of the hunt, telling stories after it is over around the camp fire, getting together for a good meal at the days' end. The stories seem to get bigger and better every year they are told. For me that is what I look forward to each year.
As I added another rack to my wash tub, my wife the other day asked, "What in the world are you ever going to do with all those horns?". I could think of no answer but, "Keep'um". She just does not understand. Each one of those horns represent a hunt, an adventure, a day in time in my life I spent with Nature, friends and family. I can just about tell you a story with every rack. It is strange how you can remember some things and not others. Days with my dad who has passed away and other days with guys I still hunt with now. It is not just a wash tub of bones, it is a wash tub of memories. emoAngel
Looking forward to the new year fishing with all you goons. Come this Fall I will be looking forward to making some more memories of the hunt too. God Bless you all. emoToast Jmax
