I went over to running water today and stopped short of the bridge. On our first cast my partner and I both hung into a net stretched all the way across the channel coming out from the bridge. emoBang We were able to pull it up and get our baits. I don't think it was shallow enough to get in the prop but sometimes they are. There was one jug floating at the end of the net but I didn't notice it until I was already hung. After that I got to looking around and the guys were out running their nets and they had them in several place between there and the road going out to the old 41 bridge that's being torn out. So if you see any floating jugs be careful those things can screw up some seals! emoBawl By the way there was a good sized cat in the net where we pulled it up.

Not sure that net was in a legal spot. From what I understand they're not supposed to near creek mouths, don't know how Running Water bridge qualifies.
I personally don't like litter, so any jugs that are hung up on a rope-I tend to cut free and get it out of the water!

I believe your right (dragfish) about it being stretched across that opening. I was thinking the same thing! I thought about cutting the net when we got everything loose but it looked brand new and those guys are trying to make a living!

Just remember since your talking about legal or not (dragfish) if those jugs are properly tagged with name and number you cut off you are not legal!that would be destruction of private property!just saying.

You are right-but have you ever seen one that was tagged? I'm not saying I run around cutting nets every time I see one, but it is annoying to cut one out of your prop or see them in illegal locations.
I'm more concerned about the game fish that are netted, I used to rent a cabin near Sullivan's a long time ago from a commercial fisherman that would tell me where he was netting a lot of crappie or bass.
He never brought them back (that I saw) I just wondered if they survived or not-probably not.

I hate those nets I've cut two close to Chester frost on chick that got in my trolling motor.

<font color="#ff0000"><font size="3"><font face="georgia, palatino">hit one running 45 mph it is like throwing out a parachute..i know i hit one..had to cut it out of my prop..it didnt do any damage i pulled out of the gas real quick..but i might have cut alittle more than i should have..but they had the option to sew the two haves back together..if they wanted to. an as i said once before i was coming out of mullens cove one day an counted about 75 dead drum...an within 75 yards of the drum were a comercial fisherman running his nets i ask him about the drum an he said he cant get a dime for them things...um.. nice dont cha think.... emoUSA

Have any of you ever seen TWRA checking these nets or the people that use them? I never have, and I have fished Nickajack for over 30 years.

No as a matter of fact I have not seen twra down there doing there job. I don't know that you can get them out of there warm truck. They want us to purchase those license. The biggest thing I have been hearing about Nickajack is what has happened to the fishing down there well I would be willing to bet that bass can't swim through those nets so they get hung up as well and die.
