I changed the oil in my Lower unit about 2 weeks ago and today I went to check the oil level (1990 Yamaha Pro-V 150) and noticed that it was milky looking. I think this is from water leaking into it, but would like confirmation :( If this is the case, does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for to remedy this problem?

Thanks for any advise

Looks like water intrusion for sure. Did you damage - or mabe lose - the gaskets on the drain and vent plugs when you changed the LU oil? Otherwise, the next place to check would be the prop shaft seal(s). Your Yam dealer should be able to pressure test the LU to check the seals. Would not run it until you can get it fixed. Good luck!

Look at the simplest things first. Check to see if the gasket on your drain plug is bad. These should be replaced everytime you change your LU oil. There is a good chance this is the problem since you just changed your oil. These cost pennies on the dollar too so it is a cheap fix.

Next take your prop off and thrust washers and check for fishing line wrapped around your prop shaft. If there is line around the shaft then the seals are definately going to need to be cheanged. Outter seals can be a DIY job if you have any mechanincal experience what so ever.

Thanks to everyone that answered. I changed the gaskets on the screws when I changed the lube so it's a good chance I'll be changing the seal.
