Since we are now getting substantial rain, how will it effect water temperature this time of year? Will it raise or lower it? How does it change water temp in spring and summer?

it usually doesn't affect main lake temps much at all, you may see the difference back in creeks or where the run off is coming into the lake but with the air temp while raining being so close to the water temp I wouldnt expect to see any significant differences, although the added color to the water will help it warm a bit if we get some sun. muddy/stained water absorbs heat faster, relatively speaking.

SHane - 12/12/2016 9:25 AM Ok, did not know that stained water heats faster.

Yes it does and especially during pre spawn. That is why Randy Howell did so good at Guntersville during the last day of the bass master classic a couple years ago

Water temps have dropped three degrees from last Monday until today, 55 today, the water seems a little darker but you can still see the bottom in about four feet of water. What seems strange to me is, with all the rain we've had in the last week and a half, it's not muddy.

I think the rain we got was too spread out. I mean, we usually need some serious downpours to muddy the creeks real good. Remember last year? we had some serious rain that brought the lake up to the spillways. The bass came right up with the water level. I slaughtered them in muddy water on main lake points! My biggest sack was like 28 lbs! Warm rain had also warmed the lake suddenly !

Trust me, there are some muddy areas for sure! Just in different places. Hurt my bite in a couple of my spots
