Fished both days in the evening hours of the day. Started out on the 17th in which it was drizzling rain and foggy. But I figured the cloud cover would make it good and talked my wife into going. Boy did I have this day pegged!! Water temps in the upper 60s and beautiful scenery. And the fish were more than cooperative. Schools of shad were everywhere and we caught bass in about every place we tried fishing. Really got into them off a point with rip rap on it though. They weren't chasing the shad on top nor did they show any signs of being chased (the shad) but they were sure jakhammering the crankbaits. We fished for about 2 hrs (last minute decision to go fishing) and caught about 20 between the two of us...all but a couple were slicks but still fun to catch. Put in at Hornsby and fished that area since it was so foggy. Didn't want to run too far in case it got so thick you couldn't see the bow of the boat.

So that said, I was really itching to go again soon and we did that earlier the next day and it turned out to be the total opposite of the day before. This time we had blue skies and warmer weather. Water temps in the 69-70 degree range. And still found the shad but no bass this time. Yeah...the big goose egg. Put in at a different place this time though...probably should have went with the Hornsby area again. Put in at the ramp above the dam and fished the areas in the creeks there looking for shad and bass.

ALMOST went today despite the on/off rain but wife talked me out of it and told me to go deer hunting instead. So off I'm going to hopefully put some backstraps in the freezer.

you gotta watch that fog...it`ll get on you in mid day if the conditions are right ...especially in those off channell areas on Watts Bar....just up the lake in the Blue Springs cove...we put in one morning and couldn`t see 20 feet hardly....there`s a silo right by the dock and we knew if we kept the bank on the right of the boat we would eventually find the opening to the main channell.....good plan huh !!.....we went by that silo 3 times and never got the bank off the right side of the boat once....never have figured that one out....when we finally did go thru the gap the channell was clear as a bell and bright 10 am sunshine..!!
keep after the Hornsby area ...it gets real good this time of year !!
