Fishing the morning of November 1st with a friend of mine. We made a run to Whites Creek on a chilli morning with water slick as glass and foggy. Got up in there near the flat and started fishing a rock bank that lead to a few docks. I wanted to see if we could catch a few bass there. I no more than stopped the big motor and got to the front deck with the trolling motor down....and this other boat comes running in with its big motor and goes around me and gets in front of where I was going to be fishing my way down the bank. I'm talking they stopped about 30 yds from me and cut me off. 30 yds ain't that far folks! I mean it's the middle of the week and there's like a whole gob of water to fish in Whites Creek and they just had to come in there and do that to me. Well needless to say that didn't set right with me. My buddy wasn't even out of his seat yet and I had barely had enough time to unbuckle the rods and get one in my hand. I threw my rod down in the floor and jerked the trolling motor up and then proceeded to show some attitude with just how much wake a 200 HP Evinrude can do. Probably a little bit childish on my part but I let 'em know I didn't appreciate that too much.

So to get back to the fishing. All my gauges and depth finders suddenly stopped working. I tried fooling with the battery connections and never got any juice so I was fishing blind all day. Don't know the water temp and all that good stuff. So for the fishing report itself....we managed to just catch a few bass a piece. My buddy got a nice 1.5 pound (exactly) Crappie on a crankbait. One more funny tale about Wednesday though. My buddy ain't from around here locally. He is one of those guys that thinks World War III is just around the corner and has all the assualt rifles and plenty ammo "just in case" it breaks out. Well we're sitting there fishing and since it's first Wednesday of the month, they hit those test sirens for the nuclear plant. LMBO that was the hardest time I've had in a long time to keep a straight face. His eyeballs got big as golf balls. "What is THAT?!! That's an air raid siren!!" LMBO it was hilarious.

November 3 ---

Went by myself this evening. The wind was blowing good and dealing with post frontal conditions yet again. I knew it was bad when I pulled my boat out of the water and my rope got hung in my trailer and the rope snapped. Which left my boat once again, floating by itself out in the water. So into the cold water I go. I had enough sense to take my clothes off and by golly I got my boat and fished anyway. Since it was so windy I went to a close spot where my buddy caught the big Crappie a couple days earlier. I caught my big bass there a couple months ago. Fished there with Bandit 200s and got a MONSTER Crappie up to the boat and it pulled loose. That was a solid 2+ pound crappie. So I break out the crappie gear and didn't catch anymore. Hmmm. Back to the crankbait and got ANOTHER big crappie right at the boat and it pulls loose too. Just not my day today. Only had an hour and a half of daylight to fish. I fought the wind and came back to Hornsby and fished in there a minute. Watched 4 deer come out of the woods into the powerline and sat there hoping to see one of those in front of my stand in the morning. So me thinks....crappie fishing must be picking up pretty good and in big sizes. I just gotta figure out how to catch them since they aren't liking grubs on jig heads but clobbering crankbaits.

Great report Daniel Tn - I enjoyed reading it...We should post some highly visible guidelines on CFF about common fishing and boating courtesy - sounds like some folks are clueless on it. One of my fears is watching my boat drift off the trailer away from the ramp and on down the river leaving me sitting at the ramp - glad you caught yours - You'll get them next time!

Sounds like you've already answered your question on getting crappie- just keep chuckin' the Bandit or troll it behind the boat. I got some crappie in that area this past spring throwing a 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Trap too while bass fishing. The Watts Bar crappie must think they're bass.

I'm gonna have to figure out some way to keep the fish from pulling off if I'm gonna be using crankbaits for crappie. All my crankin' rods are fiberglass anyway, with really slow actions. So I think if I would have had a graphite rod I wouldn't even have been able to got the fish to the boat without tearing a big hole in their mouth. I could be wrong though. I might go back and try some floats and minnows but that might be a waste of time considering I've never even caught a crappie on a float and minnow before. We have always just trolled 2 and 3 inch grubs on jig heads for crappie, or fished for them vertically like that when they were 20 foot or so. These fish were from 4 to 10 feet deep off of a point with stumps and rip rap.

Trolling small cranks is a good way to catch large Crappie. We used to use small jointed minnows (L&S panfish master) and a lazy Ike. I still have a couple of those.

great report Daniel! I know how some of the people around here can be, and the sad thing is, the guy probably though nothing of cutting you off. I am going to get out there today and try to catch something besides a cold.

Hey Daniel Tn, sorry that you had so much trouble on your fishing outings.... I guess that everyone has experienced stupid, and inconsiderate fishermen from time to time...I know I have had this happen to me on the Chick. I lowered my standards by washing him on shore when I left the area... It is amazing how much wake you can make with the front of the boat pointed up and going 1/4 speed... I think he got the picture as I went by... now, I am not a bad person but some folks need to know certain manners. ha

As for the rope breaking.... I hope you don't catch a cold... good report on the Bar. Be gentle with the paper mouths...

We had the same problem last weekend in about the same spot it sound like. They came by us with their big motor full blast. Came back the next day and they were sitting in the spot they about waked us off of. Want to say it was a procraft boat. Oh well there is alway a jerk in the bunch.

Was the ProCraft boat a white one? I know that really helps LOL but this boat was a white one with two guys in it. I didn't pay attention to any stickers on the boat though so I have no idea what brand boat it was; other than it was white. My boat is silverish grey. It's a Vision brand. I try to be nice when I see people fishing and slow down to an idle when I am going to pass close by. But when I see a jet ski or ski boat sitting there with someone trying to get back on skies or a wake board, I let er rip. That's rotten of me too but they sure don't think twice when they are washing you up on the bank.

I'd say another trip or two for the year and I'm gonna be done for a few weeks. I have a lot of stuff I want to do to my boat and trailer to either get it ready for next year or to sale. I like my boat but I'm wanting to try fishing a local tourney or two but I was told that I couldn't fish them out of my boat. My boat is rated for a 150 on the sticker but I think that is because a 150 was as big of motor as they made back when they made my hull. I have a 200 on it now but there are other 19-20 foot bass boats rated for 200s now. My motor is newer than my hull.
