What a day!

I played hookey from work last night so I could go fishing this morning. Gonna be working the next who knows how many weekends and I decided to go fish while I could. I'll tell ya I can barely type this thing out from excitement and you all are probably gonna laugh me off the board when you see why. But this morning I couldn't round any of my buddies up to go fishing and decided I was going anyway. My first trip by myself.

Waited til the fog lifted this morning and headed out. I thought I was gonna go bust again at first....cause those first 2-3 hours were fishless. I had two on while fishing a hump that got off...just small fish. Then I remembered reading an article on bass and their movements when it starts getting towards fall and decided to head to some creek mouths. Why not...couldn't hurt me no worse if I didn't catch a fish. LOL. Pulled up on a point that goes out to a creek channel and started crankin' it with a Deep Little N in Firetiger. Caught a chunky keeper largemouth there and probably could have caught more but I was about ready to strangle some pleasure riders who were skiing some 50 yards from me. Back and forth and around and around. Left there and pulled up on a hump that is right beside a creek and caught a few slicks there on a small crank. I was actually content with that. On the way back towards the ramp I stopped at another point I have never fished before and threw out with the big crank. I think it was my third cast I hooked into what I first thought was a big catfish. I fought it and its heavy dive runs it would make when it got close to the boat. Then when I looked over and saw what it was my knees about buckled out from under me. My goal for this year was a 5 pound bass and I'm not sure if this would have went 5 or not but by golly I'm not complaining. But I would appreciate your all's guesses.

I reached down and lipped it in the boat and if you were anywhere within 2 miles of me this afternoon and heard hollerin' and praising the Lord, it was me at that very moment. I don't have scales or a measuring board in the boat. I took several pictures of the fish (thanks to the self timer) and a small video on my camera. All I can tell you is that it was a really good late birthday present. I didn't have the scales to verify but I'm just gonna say it is my biggest largemouth to date and definatly my best crankbait fish. The neat thing about this is my mom and dad gave me some cash to get my own birthday present and what did I buy? Some cranks of course. LOL. This was on one of those that I got just yesterday with that money. I was pumped up. I turned it back loose after getting a quick goodbye kiss and after that I couldn't fish worth a flip. I kept going back to the camera and looking at the pics. I did manage one more chuncky keeper on the crank on that same point but after that I had to go show somebody those pictures. So here I am. LOL.

Nice fish. I live on Watts Bar and fish it exclusively. I also keep good records and since I moved here and fished the bar, I have caught 75% of my fish on an XPS Professional Hardback Medium cranks (red hooks and coffin lip) in Brown back splatter or Firetiger. I did catch two small spots on a CR with a blue craw. The secret is out!..:)

Nice job man. That fish is definitely pushing 5lbs. Be sure to check out the thread from the Tx we had there last week. There are some good smallies there for comparison.

Let's see, Daniel. The formula for calculating the weight of the fish when you don't have scales or measuring device is....hummm...length of arm times the the length of shirt divided by the rotation of the earth plus the peak phase of the moon equals....nice 5 pounder.emoUpsmile If Beetlespin had caught this, that fish would have weighed 8 pounds. (His arm is longer than yours.)emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Nice fish! I sure wish I could have been out there, but I have been too busy here lately. I hope I can get a few hours today so I don't go crazy. The fishing is only going to get better from now until November

Nice fish dude. Looks like that fish has been feeding good. A birthday present that you can actually use, what a concept.

GOOD LOOKIN FISH THERE DANIEL....SINCE I KNOW WHERE YOU PUT IN I RECOGNIZE THE BACKGROUND....GOOD PLACE TO FISHemoPoke emoPoke JK THIS A GREAT TIME TO FISH THE BAR FOR THE NEXT 2-3 MONTHS. START THROWING THE JIG SOME SOON AND YOU`LL GET YOUR ARM BROKE FAIRLY REGULARLY.

Thanks folks for the nice words and comments. It's about to kill me because I've not been able to get back on the water. My work schedule is killing me. 7 days a week has started now and don't look to let up anytime soon. If we keep that up I'm gonna wind up getting fired. Can't do anything when you are working like that and it takes a major toll on not being able to go to church.

I heard rumors of a major sporting good store coming to Sweetwater, TN so maybe that'll happen and I can get a good job there or something. LOL.
