Took the wife out early Saturday morning around 6am and started out on a rocky point just south of the Thief Neck cut. It was her first time using a topwater bait, and wouldn't you know it, she hooked a decent bass on her second cast. It managed to throw the hook after a few second fight though.
We didn't manage any more bites there, so we tried a few more points and some deeper structure for a while with crankbaits and a carolina rig. No luck, so we just started heading down the bank pitching topwater baits and shallow crankbaits. We fished until 11am, and managed 7 fish. 2 keeper LM, and 5 short SM.
Today, we basically did the same thing all over again, but called it a day a little sooner. Only managed 3 fish, but one of them was a 2 1/2 lb SM my wife got on a pop-R. That's the biggest bass she's ever caught on an artificial, so I was really excited for her.
The willow flies were out like crazy today. The bluegill were going nuts, so I tried fishing a bluegill colored crankbait around those areas, but came up empty.
Hope everyone has a great holiday!
