I've been away from the computer but not been away from the lake. I've made 3 or so trips to the lake since my big birthday fish. And I wish I could say I've loaded the boat.

Went last Thursday evening and fished from 4:00 p.m. to dark. Put in at Hornsby and fished several areas. Caught 2 slicks and one monster crappie on a DD14.

Came back Friday evening and put in at Hornsby again and fished a few new spots and wound up with the goose egg for the evening.

Then just got back a while ago from a morning trip and more the less goose egged again. Made a run to Whites Creek from Hornsby and found TONS of shad. It was a matter of time before I found the bass BUT my outboard has been running "cold collared" here lately. It flat out stopped on me this morning as I was getting ready to run to another point further up the creek. And WOULD NOT crank over again for nothing. I didn't know what else to do...no other boats in sight. No cell phone. But I did have a fresh charged trolling motor battery. So off I troll all the way from nearly the flat at Whites Creek to past Half Moon Island heading on towards Hornsby. I see a boat up ahead and a guy flailing his arms. I was going to pass him anyway and got to him and asked if his boat was giving trouble too. Yep. His outboard starter was shot and he'd been trolling since 9 that morning and it was a little after 1:00 p.m. His let down on him at the iron hill cut through and he was within a half mile or so of arrowhead marina where he was heading when I passed him. My battery soon went drained as I'd been running it on high the whole time. I was getting ready to switch to the cranking battery and decided to give the big motor one more shot before I changed over. And it started!! Yeah!! Took a time or two to get it running and I wasn't sure if it was going to get me to the ramp or not so I made a hard run for it. Got the boat loaded and here I am.

Here it is just a week away from my vacation and I was going to be doing some serious bass fishing and now I got a motor problem or something. It cranks and runs fine when its warm out side but if it's cool out...it sputters and jumps and just wont run worth a flip.

seem like i had a trip or two like that down around the old hornsby years ago....thats a long way too troll ain`t it...what kind of engine is it ? could be the choke isn`t opening back up after it starts....
you might try Bunch marine in Kingston....

It's a '95 Evinrude Vindicator 200. Thanks for the heads up about Bunch Marina. I had no idea of anywhere to take a motor to have looked at. I live in Riceville (south of Athens) and didn't know of anybody.

I too have made the long troll and that aint no fun. I blew my motor up a couple years ago, and it was in the middle of winter in the evening. I had to troll for about two hours to get to the closest boat ramp. If you don't have it fixed by your vacation, let me know and we can go in my boat.
