Put in below the dam this morning around 6:30 hoping to hook into a few stripers. It was very foggy and cold, had ice all over the boat and even had my steering freeze up. That's a first for me! After puttering all the way to the dam due to the heavy fog I decided not to try and catch bait, it was way to cold to get wet. I started throwing a redfin and after a few casts landed a striper that was 8lbs. That was it, never got another bite! There were several other boats there and I never saw anyone catch anything. But then again, I couldn't see much of anything for about an hour or so because of the fog.
Left the dam and headed down river to Sewee creek to do some bass fishing. We ended up getting into a good school of white bass, for about 30min we were catching one on every cast. We finished out the day fishing the mouth of the creek.
Water temps were between 51(at dam) and 53(at creek) with good current(2 or 3 generators running).

The stripers might be scattered...it is still early but a few are probably there..I will be headed to Nickajack in the morning to see how things are...this cold spelled have slowed them down a bit but warmer weather is on the way and things should pick up next week...stick with it because better days are just around the corner! How was the fight on the 8lber?

I'm going to try to get up to Sewee Creek tomorrow to see if there is anything running. If not, I may work my way downriver on some of the ledges and creek mouths and see what I can find. Hopefully the weather is going to be a lot nicer than what you had.

It really was a fun day, definatly my best day of fishing this year, but thats not saying much. The striped bass was fun to catch (I almost forgot how hard they pull) but the white bass at Sewee creek were the best. I must have gotten on a school of them cause we were catching one on every cast for a while and then nothing, they must have moved or something. That was also the first time I had ever been to Sewee creek and have to say it looked really good.I should have taken a pic, with the water down you could see LOTS of stumps, laydowns, grass, and a big point at the mouth of the creek. Even with the water down the depth in the creek averaged 10-12ft. It must be a good place to catch bait, there were a few of the "serious" striper boats that went up in it netting bait. I talked to a few of them and they said it's where they usually get their shad but also tear alot of nets up in the process, pros&cons what can you do. I plan on getting back up there next week and trying a few more places I saw on the map.

Fisherpal2k, I actually caught them on a small spinnerbait. I really don't throw spinners very often except at night (a hard thumping, wobble head, black and purple deal) but during the day this is what I use.
I was really looking for spots but happened upon the whites. My buddy didn't catch half as many as I did and he threw every thing but the kitchen sink, they were absolutly nailing this little lure. I dont know who makes these or where I bought it but sure would like to have some more, it's only a matter of time before I lose it, lol.
I guess it's about a 1/4oz with mulitiple colors, if any of you guys ever see any of these please refresh my memory.
