WattsBar Dam 6/15/06

Fished below the dam today trying to get a cooler full of skipjack (Iv'e run out) to freeze for catfishing. What can I say... they just weren't there, didn't get a single one! The water flow was next to nothing and it was hot as heck emoHoppingmad. Gonna try below Chick dam in the morning so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
On a side note I did see something new to me. Right along the bank there were LOTS of long nose gar, had to be around a hundred or so. There were so many they were actually pushing eachother up on the rocks, I pulled my boat right up along the bank beside them and on top of them. They were so thick I couldn't see the bottom in only 3ft of water. Anyone ever see this before?

That's a great pic drc. I have seen the gar thick below Nickajack surfacing close to the bank but never stacked up in the rocks like a bunch of bait fish. I wonder if they might be spawning...Maybe they are running from something huge Whatever the case I'm always happy to see life thriving in the river no matter what the species is...makes me want to take up gar fishing with some rope on a fly rod.

drc... just FYI, I couldn't find ANY skipjack below Chickamauga today. Tuesday afternoon I caught a LOT! It was great. But tried with clients this morning to get skippies for rockfish and failed. I tried agin this evening after they left and failed some more. Weird. No, I've nevver seen gar like that... would like to be there with my bow however. emoEnforce

The same place my fishing and other posts have been, virtually NON EXISTENT.

I have had a lot going on at work (co-worker left company leaving me with 2 jobs)
and at home with church related summer activities.
