Saturday I hunted the lake and saw the most birds I have seen all year, and never fired a shot. Had some ducks that worked the spread and gave me that questionable shot I let several groups go, Im sick of missing 50 yard plus shots. Mainly mallards, a few Gads, some geese and no divers. These are the smartest ducks that I have ever hunted, Ive hunted the midwest and alot and in the Northeast, I guess I have always took for granted that these birds have been pounded since Canada. I've done everything that I could, thined the number of deeks, not called, etc. etc. Tonight I hunted a swamp in North Ham. county and saw some geese, good number of mallards, and a few groups of woodies. Ended up killing 2 woodies before shooting time ended. Ganna let it all hang out the last couple weekends, will see what happens. Definitely a lot more ducks in the area.

Congrats on harvesting the woodies.........Surprised they are still here after the freeze. I bet they were northern birds.
The duck numbers are so poor this year I have not even been, My poor dog won't even hardly talk to me anymore.
The spot I hunt normally roosts 1000-3000 birds every winter, There may be only 100-200 birds here this year. But I did see a flight of cacklers mixed in with a flock of local geese Friday, those are cool souding little geese. I hope you wear the ducks out the remainder of the season, if they get here I may give them a shot once or twice.

Try what I have been doing:

1). Show up at spot at 3am to assemble blind and get decoy spread put out.
2). Once complete, put expensive duck-call in wader pocket and leave it there.
3). Turn around every now-and-then to make sure no one is stealing your spread as you walk 300 yards downstream of your blind.
4). Setup on random spot on the bank and shoot the ducks that are flaring off your spread/blind!!!!!!

Seriously did this one day ...
