Headed to the family tract this weekend in Putnam Co. TN. The main objective was to scout and plant plots. Sunday morning I climbed up into my lock-on down in the field well before sunrise. About 20 minutes into legal shooting light, I hear the sounds of hooves on the ground but didn't see anything in the over grown field. Seconds later a small deer trots into view and bow-range. By the time I picked up my bow there were two large deer chasing this smaller deer very aggressively!? One of the big does and the small one ran out of the field leaving the third big doe. I had to think quick because she was about to leave. I laid the smack on her at about 30 yards and she crashed her way out of the field. I stayed in the stand for about 30 minutes and got to watch another doe feed in the field before moving on. I lowered my bow and began heading down when I noticed another big doe standing about 15 yards away. I just waived at her as she casually strolled out the field. I got down and was moving along a logging road that just in the woods, suddenly I look up and hear comes the big doe chasing the smaller one straight at me. I knocked another arrow and before I could draw that deer was in my face about to run over me! That deer locked 'em up soo hard that she actiually threw dirt and leaves on me! Of course they busted and took off blowing as they went. So Me2 deer0. Planted the fields in a mix of winter wheat and oats, now for the rain dance! The dark moon seemed to have the deer moving in the mornings and none in the evening where I was. There are no acorns and the deer are staying in the lower elevations around pastures and water. Question: why would two adult does be aggressively chasing a smaller one in early October? Soory for the long post, but I had to Share.
