Sorry for the late report.
Fished Guntersville Saturday with a very good friend of mine who never fishes but loves to go with me about once a year. We put in at Goosepond along with about 150-170 other boats in the Gambler tournament. Most of the stuff I wanted to get on was covered up due to all the boats. No current and no breeze made it tough on us. We only land 2 keepers, but had a 3rd come off at the boat. One 2lbs on a big worm red bug, one 2-1/2 lbs on a horny toad, and the one we lost at the boat came on the toad. I had one good bite flipping a Paca Craw in the hydrilla. Had it on for a second and then he was gone. Never saw it but it sure felt good. No bites on the big jig. We left at 1:00 because that was all the time he had.
I read where the Gambler tournament was won with 25lbs. Big fish 8.90lbs
Sunday got out on Chickamauga with another friend who rarely fishes but he is starting to get the bug. The morning was rainy and cloudy so we started with topwaters catching lots of little fish. We soon moved out to the deeper points and humps and found a few better fish in the 12'-16' range. We catch 10 or so bass there. My friend catches on a little under 5lbs and I also catch a small keeper. We ended up hitting 5 other similar places like this catching a few more quality keepers mixed in with lots of small ones all on a big worm. Again we left at 1:00 with 6 keeper largemouth around 15 lbs. All keepers came either on a red bug or plum 10" worm.
Monday night dog fight out of Chester Frost...I fished with Jonas Shackleford for the first time. He wanted to catch some fish and find out how a Stratos rode and drove. I thought we would do pretty good in the dog fight but I was wrong. I don't know what happened to the better fish. We caught lots of fish again but only 1 keeper largemouth and one spot. It took 12lbs for 1st and 11lbs for 2nd.
