Hello all. I'm hoping to take my 14 year old son fishing at Lake Weiss on Saturday morning. We've been a few times but don't catch much...at least not anything worth keeping or mentioning. Any suggestions on baits and locations for Crappie? Wouldn't be opposed to catching a few cats either. We're not too familiar with the lake emoScratch but we normally launch off the public ramps on the bridge in Cedar Bluff and head towards JR's Marina. Advice will be greatly appreciated. Who knows....we may come back with some good pics to post.emoApplause

to the CFF! Glad you found us, and your asking the right folks. I cant help on that lake, as I dont fish it, but I know some members do, and will give you some great tips.

Welcome to the CFF. OK if you are going after crappie take some 1/32 and 1/16 oz jigs and troll the flats just off the river channel close to the Hawg's Den. Shooting the docks near JR's will produce some fish as well. Bubblegum/chartruse tripple ripple grubs,black/blue/chartruse,John Deere green,Tennessee Shad with tails dyed chartruse are good producers. If you be real careful and stay in between the channel markers go up the Coosa about a mile and a half past the Alabama Belle Resort and fish the backs of the logjams with these jigs. For catfish bump bottom with cut shad down stream from the big bridge at the Hawg's Den. If there is any current let it take you downstream doing this. If not use your trolling motor pretty slow. That area is 45 to 55 feet deep and is the deepest water on the lake. Use some good gear doing this there are some big blues there. 25 pound mono minimum,6/0 to 8/0 hooks and about a 2 oz sinker. Some decent cats can also be had out in front of JR's in the 15 to 20 foot water near the Little Channel. This should keep ya'll busy for a day.
Come back on and let us know how you did. Pics are always nice too.

Man I just looked and saw you are from LaFayette. What is your name I might know you. You can pm it to me if you don't want to post it

Fellow Lafayette boy here too. I may be fishing Weiss on Sunday. I haven't decided yet. How is the water level right now?

I haven't been in a few weeks but some guys that go regular have said the level is 3.2 feet down. After the big rains and storms this week I would say the level has come up more but it will be muddy other than Little River area. Count on the Coosa and Chattooga to be real muddy.
