Jack and I made a trip down to Weiss this morning. He was there yesterday and found some fish - I was lucky enough to join him today. :) We got on the water around 8am and left about 5pm. It was slower today than yesterday...numerous boats trolling out this morning, so close they were sometimes within rod distance of eachother, but not a whole lot of fish being caught. We trolled a bit and found nothing happening there so we went to fish structure. All of our fish came off a brushpile in 5-8ft and a rocky bank near a point casting 1-16 oz jigs. We caught 30 and kept 24 nice slabs, also catching 10-12 yellow bass. Incredible peaceful day on the water! Wtaer temp reanged from 56-60. The fish cleaning lady cleaned them for us which was great, as it allowed me time to logon and make this post tonight, otherwise I would still be outside cleaning fish right now. Thanks for the trip Jack - I learned more about Weiss today and had a great time!

David, where abouts sid you all fish? Was it just out from JR's, or did you all make the trip up to Yellow Creek? They should be moving up around the stumps just out from JR's, and around the channels there. Maybe it's too early for right there.

If you ever get the chance, look for a fellow in a red jacket, with a white beard. His name is Joe Greene, but we all call him Santa Claus. Dad booked him about 9 years ago, and he really knows Weiss pretty well. When I get the chance to fish Weiss (which has been rare over the last 2 years), and I have someone with a boat, and we are crappie fishing, I will always look for Joe. He will usually give you enough information to get you on some fish.

Glad that my home lake paid off for ya. I love fishing there, and I am hoping that I can get a few folks on here out there, and show them some sights and get them on some crappies and bass.

What was the biggest crappie for ya? Anything pushing 2-3 lbs., or were they all around 10"?

nwgabassmaster, the area resembled a creek channel with an adjacent flat but I don't know my way around so I have no idea if it was yellow creek or not...it was not JRs but was within a few miles. It looked like where they tell all the tourists to fish it was so crowded with out of state boats...but I figured there must be something to catch there as the area stayed pretty full all day. Very few crappie were 10" most were pushing 12" and they were all fat and healthy. Most were large white crappie with only 2-3 black crappie coming off the rocky areas.

Great report. Those peaceful days are few and far between on the Chic. between the wind and the whitecaps. Glad you guys had a great day.

We are doing really well fishing out of Riverside also.
The guide boats are still fishing in the middle of all the branches of Godferies, but the big fish are all ready ganging up in the brush piles. I guess its easier to troll with 6 rods than to keep tying jigs on over & over. Chartuse seemed to be the color or at least it had to have some on the jig. I hand tyied some blue & chart. that did pretty well. If you feel like it the Bass are hitting spinner baits up in the day, but to me theres nothing better than brush piles & long poles. All the brush we fished were in 3 to 5 feet. If i can help anyone with more details let me know. I have gotten a lot of help off of the Form, so its pay back time. Moose Kunkle turned me on to some crank baits last year whitch turned into the best fishing trip i've ever had later in the month. THANKS every one.
