I wanted the kids to catch a lot of fish for spring break and do some camping. We camped at JR's marina and trolled the Lake using 10 rods with my new friend Mark Collins. We used 1/32 oz jigs about 30 feet of line to get them in the 4-5- ft depth range trolling in the shallows. It seemed like the best colors were pink jighead & blackbody combined with any other tail color.

We caught about 55 keepers (10" limit) and 25 non-keepers for a total of 80 fish! The kids reeled most of them in. We only kept 30 of the keepers since we did not want to take more than we could eat so we released the others. We went from 6am to 1pm and then cooked about 10 filets on the coleman stove.

The kids also caught striper, bluegill, crappie, and shad from the dock bobber/worm fishing next to the fish cleaning station (estimate > 50 fish). The fish were in there thick and I think they now have discovered how much fun it can be fishing when you catch so many fish like that.

Needless to say this was a great trip!

RE: Weiss Lake Crappie - 80 fish

Great report, David. Willcrappie is a black crappie isn't it. Annacrappie is a white crappie. Good looking fish. Love to see the kids catch fish. That's what it is all about.emoThumbsup emoGeezer

King, I think you are correct on that. We had one or two that were really distinct black crappie from what I recall (this is an old report) and all the rest were white crappie. We camped right next to the parking lot in a tent that weekend - Great trip for sure, easy drive, and low cost for a lifelong memory... I think the kids caught about 50 bream next to the fish cleaning station after the crappie trip. They had a blast bobber fishing. We need to go back next Spring and do it again!
