I wanted the kids to catch a lot of fish for spring break and do some camping. We camped at JR's marina and trolled the Lake using 10 rods with my new friend Mark Collins. We used 1/32 oz jigs about 30 feet of line to get them in the 4-5- ft depth range trolling in the shallows. It seemed like the best colors were pink jighead & blackbody combined with any other tail color.
We caught about 55 keepers (10" limit) and 25 non-keepers for a total of 80 fish! The kids reeled most of them in. We only kept 30 of the keepers since we did not want to take more than we could eat so we released the others. We went from 6am to 1pm and then cooked about 10 filets on the coleman stove.
The kids also caught striper, bluegill, crappie, and shad from the dock bobber/worm fishing next to the fish cleaning station (estimate > 50 fish). The fish were in there thick and I think they now have discovered how much fun it can be fishing when you catch so many fish like that.
Needless to say this was a great trip!
