Came home yesterday and found my well pump running and only holding 50psi. It wouldn't build up enough to shut off. So I turned it off and started looking for leaks. After not finding any I turned it back on and no pressure at all so I primed it and got it to build up to 20psi but as soon as I cut it off pressure would drop so I pulled the lines from the well and found one had a hole in it. So I replaced the pipe and foot valve and put it all back primed the pump and still only 20 to 25 psi but the pressure won't drop now when I turn it off it just won't build up enough pressure to cut off the pump. Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be? Any help would be great. Thx in advance.

Check your voltage at the pump what ever rubbed the hole in the pipe could of got one of the wires. It will run on 110 but will not have the head pressure .

This is what I was thinking. Could be pump motor problems.

Call and ask Jim or Barb, they can help you with trouble shooting. They can test your pump (if you bring it to them).

Good luck!

If all fails call Mills Well Service in Pikeville, Tn. These are good folks to deal with. Good luck.

Sounds like a worn pump impeller to me. I once had a pump that would not build pressure. When I tore it down, I found that part of the impeller had worn away. Some well water slowly eats away at components in the system until they begin to fail by leaking or eroding away.

I was going to say the pressure tank, that seems to sustain a vacuum to keep the water from flowing backwards and keep pressure in the house. Mine starts knocking real hard and I have to give it a shot of air pressure that lasts a month or two.
