Wesley Strader has caught the potential new state record Spotted bass from the Ocoee River on July 30 . The bass weighed in at 6.43 lbs . I heard about this Friday but didn't know who it was that caught it . There is a article about it at the FLW web site .

Good luck to him. The other recent large catches from that area have not passed the genetic test for state record certification.

Ok I cant help but wonder if the 6.43lb Spot was the same fish Heath J caught a while back http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=39653&posts=2 ... but then again, not sure if Wes and Brad were fishing below the dam or somewhere else on the river. I need to get me a new set of scales LOL Colbys 5-9lb spot looks bigger than the 6.43, but theres not really a good close up pic on that fish that I've seen yet.

fishinvol - 8/3/2010 11:58 AM Yea but colby weighs like a hundred lbs soaking wet. He makes fish look like whales. :)

emoUpsmile THat is true, somewhat! LOL When he gets a picture with a fish, it does justice.... when I hold a 4lber it looks like a 3lber. When he holds a 4lber it looks like a 4lber, but doesnt make it look bigger in my opinion. Anyone know how long the 6.43 was? All I know is that its fat.

It will be interesting to see how all of this evolves.Since the original record was predicated on Micropterus Punctulatus - Northern Spotted Bass. The Southern spotted bass, Micropterus Henshalii which has just been declared a seperate species and not a sub-species is probably what the Strator fish is. It was proven by DNA that was the case with the last record from Parksville. This was a nice fish, I just hope that it is not a hybrid.

i wanna see a picture.. nothing like a big spot! The two almost 5lbs i caught this winter were probably my favorite catches of all time

Here's a pic... sure is a hawg!

That's a Coosa. Kentucky's seem to be a lighter green. Coosa's get really dark colored on their back. Beautiful spot !!

Yep those coosa's sure are pretty fish... not sure wether it is because they are that breed of spots or if its just that they are mostly in clearer water... I know they get really pale like a kentucky you would see out on the Tennessee when the water gets muddy or murky.

Anyone know how long this fish is?

SpurHunter - 8/3/2010 3:47 PM Chris how did you do the other night down there?
